Has anyone tried those Eat Natural bars? They do them in loads of flavours and they’re basically fruit, nut, oats and sometimes chocolate. They’re really good. Unfortunately they’re really expensive! The last time I looked they were £2 for a box of 3…that’s just not good maths for a family of four!
At around 11am every day, I get a bit peckish…. I just want something quick an easy, that I can grab with a cup of coffee whilst i’m working. I just don’t want to pay lots of money for the convenience! These took me less than 10 minutes to make and I already had most of the ingredients in the cupboard. I haven’t actually added up the price difference between these and the branded bars – but they are, without doubt LOADS cheaper!
The kids have loved having one of these when they got home from school this week. I don’t feel too guilty about either, as other than the chocolate (which there isn’t much of) there’s no refined sugar. Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of peanut butter, you can barely taste it, it just helps hold the bars together.
Make a batch of them on a Sunday and they’ll last you all week!

Makes 12 bars
- 75g of dark chocolate
- 50g ground almonds
- 80g sultanas
- 200g porridge oat
- 30g flaked almonds
- 5 tbls honey
- 5 tbls smooth peanut butter (the healthy kind if you can!)
- Using a heavy knife, chop the chocolate into small chips. Place the chocolate chips into a mixing bowl with the ground almonds, sultanas, porridge oats and flaked almonds. Mix the ingredients together.
- Place the honey and peanut butter in a non-stick pan and heat through until it’s hot and runny. Give it a stir and pour it over the porridge mixture.
- Use a spoon to mix it all together, you will need to spend a few minutes doing this, gathering up all of the loose ingredients until they are thoroughly coated, otherwise it will fall apart. Keep doing this until you have a sticky, oat dough and there are no loose ingredients.
- Tip the oat mix into a baking tin or dish, roughly 25cm x 20cm. Use the back of a spoon to press all of the ingredients down firmly. Go over the oats a few times, pressing hard, to make sure it all sticks together and the top is smooth. Pay particular attention to around the edges.
- Place the tray in the fridge overnight, before carefully cutting into 12 equally sized rectangles.
- Store the bars in the fridge to keep them chewy!
